OUR UNIVERSE

The Green Hydrogen Ecosystem

Bipolar plates are components that are present in the entire green hydrogen ecosystem. The entire hydrogen economy is based on the use of electrochemical conversion energy devices, such as electrolyzers, fuel cells, and REDOX flow batteries. Using the di-hydrogen molecules as an energy vector, un-needed energy produced by renewable energy can be stored into gas, before being converted back into electricity when necessary. All those systems use bipolar plates.

By producing a such key component that intervenes in the entire hydrogen ecosystem, HYCCO is in full capacity to offer cost-competitive solutions to massively de-carbonate various applications, like heavy mobility (shipping, railway, aeronautics, trucks, buses and more…).

Renewable Energy Production

It is known that sun and wind can produce large quantities of clean, renewable energy. Sustaining production of these two kinds of energies is unclear. And also, the question of storage remains.

Hydrogen production: The Electrolyser

Electrolysers are the electrochemical devices that split water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen.

Hydrogen storage

Hydrogen is an energy vector that can be stored in large quantities and for a long time.

Fuel cell

When electricity is needed, hydrogen is converted back to electricity thanks to fuel cell devices. Heat and water are the only by product of the reaction. The electricity can be directly used at the usage level, either for mobility or stationary applications.

Redox Flow Batteries

There is another emergent reversible system to store energy in large quantities and for long time. It is particularly important to be coupled with renewable energies and regulate the electricity injected in the grid. REDOX batteries’ environmental impact is lower than usual Lithium-Ion batteries.

Alternative hydrogen sources

Hydrogen can also be generated from the biomass through gasification.

PEM FUEL CELL

A technology particularly suitable for heavy mobility

Fuel cells (FCs) are electro-chemical devices that convert hydrogen into electricity. For most of them, water is the only byproduct. Among the various fuel cell types that have been developed over the last decades, we are interested in Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFC), which represent 80% of the total power deployed.
This technology is able to deliver enough power to a large variety of applications especially the more demanding such as heavy mobility. This is where HYCCO helps making it more suitable.
